Main Reflection

Throughout the semester this class has required me to call upon many different writing skills and also discover some i did not know about. I expected the class to be mostly analysis of random texts, and even though the class contained this it there were multiple twists on this. At first i thought of myself as a good writer however, this class has made me go into a deeper meaning and understanding of how i write and compose literature, with less on an emphasis on the finished result. The main changes i noticed during the semester were not in my writing but in the way i think about writing. The changes came more in the way that a lot more thought goes into my planning. Secondly, my writing now utilizes more sources to compare and reinforce the topics i'm writing about. This semester i used Rose, Mirabelli, Gee and Wardle all in pieces to add to the effect or concrete ideas. Prior to this semester i would mainly use internet sources or examples to reinforce my writing not other authors and their theories.

Regarding writing i definiteltly found the pieces at the start of the semester far easier and with the complexity of the prompts ongoingly struggled as the semester continued. I believe this is because the audiences in the later essays were directed at a particular audience and i definitely feel my strengths are built into being directed at a general audience. With a general audience the tone and theme of the piece are much easier to direct, whereas the digital discourse was directed specifically towards one audience and i found this the most difficult. Even with the difficulty i do still believed that i have greatly improved on this aspect, i am not saying i am good but there has been a significant change in the way i approach and target specific audiences. The use of outside sources i have been able apply to other classes during this semester. My essays for history have benfited greatly, i have been able to analyze and relate outside sources much easier and my process of writing them has become much easier. Furthermore, in my writing approach the trouble's of "writer's block" have seized to exist. This is because the articles from the book have really enlightened me as to why it happened and i have taken this to heart and a vast improvement has occured. The flow has improved so much and my writing consequently has became far better.

I am going to continue to improve on my direction towards audiences as i know this will be a prominent part of my ENC 1102 class and hopefully it can became a strong part of my writing arsenal. I find that all the analysis and use of outside sources will be helpful in all my writing classes that i am going to take throughout the rest of college. By using these i will be able to support my writing far more with more than just quotations. I learned that interviews and acting within a community can be far more helpful than just googeling something or utilizing wikipedia. The final essay and works of Mirabelli, Gee, and Wardle will be useful to my future success as i have a great insight of how to write regarding specific audiences. This semester taught me that the style used to write an analytical essay for English, History or any other subject are completelty differentto each other and this idea to me before was compltely absent.
